Welcome to Alexandria, VA! The sweet young family that moved into this house had just had their first baby when we began working together on 10 different spaces within. They desired both the ability to entertain adult friends as well as create an easy environment for growing their family. I am always proponent of loving your home at any stage of life, but especially in those toddler years. They’re hard on the home! And it’s understandable why so many sacrifice the house to the kids. It’s really a treat to partner with young families on creating a home for the whole family. In this project I focused on durable, high rub count fabrics with easy spot-cleaning properties. The beautiful natural light this home gets from all sides was an element I knew I wanted to use to the homes advantage, so I worked with contrasts (both strong and soft), to enhance the reflections. As this home is quite old, I stuck with a fairly traditional color palette that honors the homes integrity, but peppered in a few modern elements to incorporate my client's own style.
